Musical Director

Alex has been Musical Director for several West End Showcases including material by many of the major composers of Musical Theatre such as Sondheim, Lloyd Webber, Coleman, Loesser, Kander and Schoenberg.

In addition to full scale productions at various venues including the Rosemary Branch and Courtyard theatres, Cecil Sharp House and Madame Jojo’s, he has been Musical Director of numerous extracts from shows such as The Life, Company, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Wicked, Chicago, City of Angels, Fame, Jesus Christ Superstar, Jekyll & Hyde, Little Shop of Horrors, Chess, The Wild Party and Mack and Mabel in venues including the Criterion, Fortune, Cockpit and Lewisham Theatres, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Victoria and Albert Museum and The Stables, Wavenden where he worked closely with members of the Dankworth family.

He has worked alongside directors, producers, choreographers and designers from companies such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, the Soho Theatre, Oxford Playhouse and Wales Millennium Centre as well as freelance professionals and amateurs, and put together accompanying instrumental groups ranging in size from trios to full orchestras, often reorchestrating scores to suit the requirements of individual companies.

In 2016 he was appointed Musical Director of the Phoenix Players and Chinnor Musical Theatre.

In June 2017 Alex became Musical Director of The Medieval Banquet, London.
